Bespoke fitted furniture - it’s all about the details
When it comes to commissioning an item of bespoke fitted furniture for your home, I have an important piece of advice for you; always remember that no detail is ever too small, because it’s often the smallest details that make the whole thing shine.
Yes, of course, the main structure and internal configuration of your furniture is important, but don’t forget to think about little things like handles, decorative moulding, cable holes and even joints.
Handles
We LOVE a good handle at woodfashioners and so do our clients – probably because its often the most important touch point between an individual and the furniture. So, taking the time to find the right handle to match the furniture, and your home, is important.
Of course, if you already have handles from an older item of furniture, or you have seen some cool ones online we can integrate them to the furniture we are building. But honestly, we always prefer to design and make our own handles whenever possible – it’s the best way to ensure something will fit perfectly.
Mouldings
BREAKING NEWS - decorative mouldings are making a comeback! That’s right, even the most modern of houses are looking to add a sense of heritage and depth with the use of simple and elaborate decorative mouldings on door fronts floors and ceilings. We think it can make all the difference and is well worth looking into.
Cable holes
Not something you would immediately think about when commissioning some furniture, but when you’re fitting a 3m long media unit or home office, I can guarantee you will need some sort of cable management solution. All too often we see a piece of beautiful furniture ruined by a horrible cable hole, especially one that’s plastic. That’s why we always try and hide cables as much as possible, and if they have to make an appearance, then we make our own wooden cables holes / covers to fit perfectly into the item of furniture.
Dovetail Joints
Nothing beats the sight of snug, interlocking dovetail joints in the drawers or larder of your bespoke kitchen. Sure, they are not the easiest things to make, but it’s well worth the effort and only a very small additional investment. It’s details like these that will really make you fall in love with your kitchen.
So, when it comes to planning your next bespoke fitted furniture project hopefully this blog post will help you discuss some of the finer details with us or any other bespoke furniture makers. And don’t be afraid to get into the details right from the start, it’s never too early to chat about these things, after all, they are the little touches that will bring your showpiece furniture piece to life.
